Couple of rough weeks

 Well, it was inevitable-- we had a rough couple of weeks. I do lots of prep ahead which definitely helps, but when the baby doesn't sleep for 3 nights and the toddler has forgotten she's potty trained, and the weekends are extremely busy, and the baby can now walk (upstairs and to unguarded toilets) but can't nap... it's very easy for things to fall by the wayside. In this case the only thing that fell by the wayside was my powers of calm. Mommy had a few tantrums of her own. But we did actually get all our school work and MOST of our housework done so...win?

Science days we learned about water and made a periodic table of Legos. (Lego? Legos?...dang, how do you pluralize that word?). We also chose to move written Science work to another day as there is just too much Science to fit into one morning and written work is easily not a group activity. We also learned about St Sergius of Radonezh.

 We did some catching up in Science and Theo is writing a report on hydrogen to be presented to the class next Tuesday when we learn about the alkali metals (of which hydrogen is sort of in the same group although it's actually not a metal and technically kinda belongs in its own group.) A lot of what we are learning is a bit advanced for the little kids (Theo is just eating it up though). So we have decided it makes more sense for one of us to sum up the basics concepts we are learning each week for the littler kids and teach it verbally with the white board and the Usborne quick links.

We continued our History, Language Arts, and Latin. Theo is doing quite well with the Latin, but I realized he needs to work on grammar exercises before he does translations so he is perfectly familiar with the grammar concepts. I need to spend a little time one on one with him for that as my Latin is slightly rusty, but otherwise he is doing very well. We will probably take a break to just review and memorize vocabulary and grammar in December.

History included learning about native Americans of the south west, and the French, English, and Dutch in North America. Georgie got a perfect mark on her spelling test and has been doing more narrations on her own finally. Both of them have continued to make good progress with their Math.

A nasty cold has made its way into the house and the effect on the younger crowd has been pretty bad. I'm pretty sure the effect on my nerves is worse though.

I am considering moving Georgie's Maths lessons to the evenings because it is just so hard to get enough one on one time with her --the small people are ALWAYS interrupting and causing chaos. And if she finishes her morning work quickly enough she can play with the littler people and keep them out of trouble long enough for me to help Theo with Latin. Hopefully things will calm down a bit after Thanksgiving.
